“Newarkers stand together – three-and-a-half centuries later – as a vibrant community with a rich cultural diversity and heritage of economic innovations and academic resilience. Long before the American Revolution and through the Civil Rights Era and beyond, our ancestors built businesses and sustained trades that powered America’s growth. This is a source of enormous pride for us as we work together to make our city one that we can all believe in.”  – Mayor of Newark, Ras J. Baraka
