NJPAC’s Jazz Jam Sessions

Celebrating its third season, NJPAC’s free jazz series moves to Clement’s Place, the intimate new club in Newark’s downtown. The series features live music every third Thursday of the month commencing August 18th through December 15th. Co-presented by NJPAC and the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University-Newark, Jazz Jam Sessions attracts ace musicians from New Jersey and beyond, as well as talented students seeking to play alongside their musical heroes. Admission is free, but space is limited. The dates are as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 22: Join us for a program including Steve Davis on trombone, bassist David Williams, Alvester Garnett on drums, and pianist James Austin.

Annual Children’s Halloween Parade & Party

We invite you to join us at our Annual Children’s Halloween Parade & Party, as we greet the ghosts and goblins of the community and watch as they enjoy the following free activities: decorating pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, petting zoo, costume parade, special treats and much more. The parade starts at the corner of 2nd Avenue & Mt. Prospect Avenue turning right at Verona Avenue and ending at Flamboyan Manor at 147 Verona Avenue. Festivities will be held rain or shine. It’s going to be a spectacular event.

Horses of Newark

Horses of Newark

Horses of Newark is a multimedia installation and interactive event that centers upon the dynamic role of horses in the city of Newark. A free public community event, at an location yet to be determined, Horses of Newark will introduce civilians to the rich history of horses in the development of the city through storytelling, photographs—and possibly horses themselves! Horses of Newark celebrates the city as a site of regeneration by illuminating the reincarnation of ex­-race horses as steeds in the Newark Mounted Police Unit where they serve as sentinels of the city.
