Linda Forgosh on Louis Bamberger

Author Linda Forgosh will be speaking and signing her new biography: Louis Bamberger: Department Store Innovator and Philanthropist. Louis Bamberger was Newark’s great department store magnate and merchandising genius and his store Bamberger’s loomed large in the lives of generations of Newarkers.  He supported John Cotton Dana’s ambitious plans for the Newark Museum, and he also endowed the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Copies of Louis Bamberger: Department Store Innovator and Philanthropistwill be available at the event.

Newark's Jewish Frontier: Weequahic and its High School

Linda Forgosh, curator and outreach director at Jewish Historical Society of MetroWest, will discuss the history of Weequahic, which was home to 35,000 Jewish residents from the 1930s to the 1960s. Known as Newark's "Jewish Frontier," Weequahic attracted the city's upwardly mobile Jewish families.
